SCEC JOINS US Green Building Council

Highlighting the company's effort to become a leader in the South Florida green building market, SCEC has joined the US Green Building Council.

Established in 1993, the USGBC (www.usgbc.org) is the national leader in green building and development. Its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System provides design and performance standards for measurable impacts on concerns such as energy conservation, global climate change, and occupant health.

SCEC Vice President Paul Carty is a LEED Accredited Professional and an elected board member of the USGBC South Florida Chapter (www.usgbcsf.org). "SCEC joining the USGBC clearly indicates that as a company we are committed to green building and understand its significance," Carty said.

The USGBC is a nonprofit organization and its members include corporations, builders, universities, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations. The USGBC includes more than 13,500 member companies and groups.

Compared to traditional buildings, green buildings on average save 40 percent in water use, 30 percent in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, and 50 to 75 percent of construction and demolition waste going to landfills, according to the USGBC.
