SCEC WINS PROJECT AWARD FROM FLORIDA DBIA

SCEC is proud to announce that its I-95 Delray Beach Noise Barrier Wall Project has won a Design-Build Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Florida Region.

The design-build project completed for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 achieved an Honor Award in the Transportation Category of the 2012 Florida Design-Build Awards.

SCEC teamed with Keith and Schnars, P.A., to design and install sound barriers alongside Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County near Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. The project included installation of a precast sound barrier wall and a cast-in-place traffic railing/sound barrier along the east side of I-95.

Throughout the project, the SCEC/K&S team implemented design-build best practices to provide the best product to the owner. The sound barriers were constructed safely and 2 percent below budget, and SCEC finished the project 35 days ahead of schedule in December 2011.

SCEC has a long history of design-build success. SCEC and K&S designed and built the Florida Turnpike's first design-build project in 1989. Over the last decade, SCEC and K&S have successfully completed eight FDOT design-build projects with high performance scores and on-time or early completion.

SCEC and K&S will accept the award on September 13 at the DBIA Florida Region Annual Conference in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. Submissions were judged by a panel of owners and DBIA professionals.

Design-build is a project delivery method in which one entity (a design-builder) forges a single contract with the owner to provide both the architectural/engineering design services and the construction services. DBIA (www.dbia.org) is dedicated to leading the expansion of this single source delivery method across all industries and markets.

SCEC President Timothy Smith is a Designated Design-Build Professional. This credential recognizes industry professionals who possess a quantified level of expertise in design-build project delivery, with both education and experience in the design-build industry. Tim was one of the first in Florida to earn this designation.
