SCEC AWARDED SECOND STREETSCAPE CONTRACT IN LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA

The Town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has awarded SCEC the second segment of the Town's streetscape improvements program for Commercial Boulevard.

The oceanfront streetscape project will transform the Town's downtown business district. Construction must be substantially complete by December 3, so SCEC will make every effort to fast-track this project. SCEC has just begun work on the west Commercial blocks under a separate Construction Management contract with the Town.

Commercial Boulevard between A1A and El Mar Drive will be reconstructed following new drainage installation. Along this section of Commercial Boulevard, trees, landscape, irrigation, and sidewalks will be demolished and replaced with new promenades, parking spaces, landscape islands and lighting. The existing center median will be removed to allow Town patrons a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Anglin Square, between El Mar Drive and the ocean, will be transformed into three new plazas terminating at the beach. Designed by University of Miami faculty members Jaime Correa and Steven Fett, with landscape design by Teresita Falcon, the plazas are to be tree-lined, hardscape abstractions of the Town's most recognizable landscape: the sea, the sand, and the native dunes. Distinct paving patterns and colors will define each plaza.

The existing overhead utility lines (electrical, phone, and cable) will be relocated to a new system of underground conduits to eliminate the overhead lines.

SCEC plans to begin construction in July and will complete the work in phases so as to maintain access to the restaurants and other businesses directly affected.
