SCEC COMPLETES LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA STREETSCAPE TRANSFORMATION

SCEC has successfully completed two concurrent streetscape projects for the Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea in time for the height of the beachside Town's tourist season.

SCEC completed the work under two Construction Management at Risk contracts (East and West segments) with the Town. The streetscape beautification, drainage, infrastructure, and pedestrian improvements were made along the Town's main corridor, Commercial Boulevard, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge.

The oceanfront easternmost block features a new series of three public plazas built with custom precast pavers to represent the dunes, sand, and ocean. The western two blocks feature four shopping/business plazas with new sidewalk promenades, redesigned parking, new landscape and coral reef-inspired metal sculptures.

All work was completed in phases so as to maintain access for the dozens of businesses and residents affected during construction. The project required substantial coordination with property owners and merchants. Both projects were completed on schedule and within budget, despite numerous design modifications required during construction due to unknown existing conditions.

SCEC mobilized on the western blocks in June, and all four reconstructed parking lots there were open in time for Thanksgiving weekend. SCEC mobilized on the eastern blocks in July; work was substantially complete on December 3, in time for the Town's annual Christmas-By-The-Sea event and street festival on December 4.

The design team for the two projects included Jaime Correa and Associates, Steven Fett Architecture, Architectural Alliance, and Flynn Engineering Services.
